Time For Learning ~ Review

Easy to use online language arts curriculum for homeschooling. We love how easy this program is to use and it is self grading too!

We’ve had the wonderful opportunity this past few months to review Time For Learning. Time For Learning is an online educational site that can be used as a full homeschool curriculum, an after school tutor or summer practice.

What We Received

We received a six month subscription to any grade level of our choice.  For our family I picked their 2nd grade program to use with my 7 year old daughter who is technicality a 3rd grader.  At first I chose to go a grade lower because I was going to use this program mainly as a review and fun educational game for her.  How ever I’ve found it to be a perfect fit for her ability levels.

With Time For Learning you have a parents account where you can set up your children's log in, information.  Than you can also select what grade level you want them to work at.  You are also free to set the grade level on a per subject biases!

In the parents area you can also set up how long you would like each lesson to last.  If you have a child with a short attention span go ahead and set it for 5 or 10 minutes.  Do you have a child who likes to work for longer time periods?  Then set it to an hour if you like!  Here you can also control how much time they can spend in the playground area on “extra” fun games and view the child’s progress in their studies.  This area also lets you print off lesson overviews and a printable schedule if you want everything laid out for you.

When a child logs in they are welcomed by a short video.  After closing this they have a very simple dashboard with subjects to chose from.  LA extensions, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies are the topics for the 2nd grade program.

Once a child picks a subject to work on the next menu that opens up is in a similar format but has many, many, many more options!  This can be a little overwhelming to the child at first.  So many cool things what to pick!  It is suggested that they start in the top left hand corner and work across the rows of exercises.  But they are free to jump around in the lessons if they want to.

How We Have Been Using It

At first I had planned to use Time For Learning as an extra fun review and supplement program for my  7 year old, 3rd grader.  However since we found out a few weeks ago that we are expecting another baby this spring and I have been completely knocked out with terrible morning sickness I’ve had her use it as her main program.  I have to say I’ve never been more grateful for the timing of having access to this wonderful tool!

Instead of worrying about how to teach my daughter during this hard time for me I’ve let her do all of her lessons with Time For Learning and she’s loving it.  She’s is right at that age where she is reading, but not well enough to do work books on her own.  Since Time For Learning reads the lessons to the children this makes it easy for her to keep working as if I was reading lessons to her.

Time For Learning is also self grading, another thing I don’t have to worry about!  It is keeping track of her grades and progress for me and I can easily print this out at any time.  But the best part is that she loves to use it.

She will work on a lesson for 15 minutes then take a break in the playground area.  It is filled with fun games such as Asteroids (remember that classic?) to many of the free games you find on PBS and Clifford etc.  The playground is a time limited area, so when she’s done her break she goes back for a another lesson session.

Time For Learning priced at a monthly subscription for K-8 students at $19.95 each and additional students are $14.95.  High school students are $30.00 a month and this includes 4 courses.  These prices are honestly more then I would normally pay for an extra enrichment game for the kids.  However I don’t think the price is to bad if this is your main program or a replacement for a tutor.  I’ve found it an amazing help right now as I’m struggling through morning sickness.
