Looking for a way to help your kids practice spelling? We love these fun games! You can even enter your own spelling lists if you want to.

When I had the chance to review Vocabulary Spelling City, I was excited because I had looked at this site many years ago.
Back then I believe it was simply called Spelling City. I remember at the time, thinking that it looked like a good site but it was above my oldest child's abilities at the time. I’m glad to have found it again!
Vocabulary Spelling City offers two types of membership. The Basic (free) gives you access to a Teacher/Parent home page, lets you share spelling lists with other members, allows you to import spelling lists, print off handwriting practice pages and worksheets.
The Premium (subscription) offer includes all the above and so much more!
With the premium membership, you have access to a teacher/parent area that lets you set up individual accounts for your children. Each child will be given their own login name and password.
After your students are set up, you can start entering your own word lists, or choose from other lists provided for you. You can also create assignments for each student.
When your child logs in, at the top of the page they will see their assigned work for the week. When you set this up you can choose what games and activities you would like them to do, and if you want a test done at the end of the week.
Activities in the assignments must be done in order. But the child can also click on the name of the spelling list to play other fun games at any time.
Vocabulary Spelling City keeps track of your child's progress, and you can check any time from your parent/teacher area. This makes record-keeping so easy!
I’ve found this website is helpful, for not just spelling! We’ve used it to enter vocabulary words from our unit studies.
When entering words for spelling or vocabulary you can select from a pre-assigned sentence, or type in your own. I’ve been doing this for our science and history topics.
The children can then play games using these words to help them remember their meanings.
We’ve enjoyed using Vocabulary Spelling City in our studies. I will say that my younger children found navigating the site and the games challenging. But my 10-year-old loved it!
I would say that your child should be reading well to get the most out of this site. If they are not reading well yet, you could also sit with them to help them find their way around and understand the activities.
