This year our oldest became a teenager! This is a new stage that brings so many different challenges and questions. I was looking for a great Bible study program to use with her this year so I was really excited to have the opportunity to review the Teen Prasso Teacher’s Manual and Teen Prasso Homework Manual from Prasso Ministries.
The word prasso is a Greek word that means to repeatedly, continually and habitually practice. I can’t think of a better name for a Bible study!
The Teen Prasso bible study is made up of:
- A Student Journal (homework manual) to be used daily
- A Teaching Lessons book to be used weekly and includes stories, lessons and group questions
Bible Study For Teens
The Teen Prasso Student Journal is specially made for teenagers, this could become a wonderful keepsake some day! It’s a 10 x 10.5 inch spiral bound workbook with a beautiful antiqued cover. This book covers a LOT of topics over a 12 week period.
- Lesson 1: God Your Heavenly Father
- Lesson 2: God’s Love
- Lesson 3: Why Doesn’t 1+2 Add Up in My Life?
- Lesson 4: It’s All-Out War
- Lesson 5: The Enemy’s Lies . . . And Where They Lead
- Lesson 6: Pressure!
- Lesson 7: Anger
- Lesson 8: Forgiveness
- Lesson 9: Two Brothers – Pride and Selfishness
- Lesson 10: Refocus
- Lesson 11: Prasso, Putting It All Into Practice
- Lesson 12: The Journey
Each lesson is broken into smaller bites over a period of 7 days. Each daily lesson is about 1 to 2 pages in length.
In days 1 to 5 the student reads Bible versions, copies out specific verses and works on a memory verse. There are also study questions and lined writing space to record their answers in.
Day 6 has a rethink section where students think back over their studies from each day of the past week. Then they write down a verse or thought that meant the most to them from that day.
Day 7 there is a section for group discussion questions.
The Teaching Lessons book is for church group leaders or parents. It has a similar cover to the student version and is 12 x 9.5 inch spiral bound lesson book. This teacher manual is PACKED full of information.
- Lesson 1: The Right Beginning
- Lesson 2: The Map
- Lesson 3: The Bridge
- Lesson 4: The Storm
- Lesson 5: The Enemy
- Lesson 6: Testimony
- Lesson 7: The Two Opposing Fears
- Lesson 8: Anger
- Lesson 9: Forgiveness
- Lesson 10: Pride
- Lesson 11: Refocus
- Lesson 12: To continually, habitually, and repeatedly practice God’s Word.
- Lesson 13: Prasso – Eternal Eyeglasses
The teaching lessons focus around a story about 2 brothers who are really into wilderness survival. They decide they want to take a hiking/camping trip alone to a remote mountain area. They know that their parents don’t really want them to do this alone but find a way to get their own way. They are so excited through the planning phase but from the start of their journey they are having one problem after another. They don’t have the experience to make the right choices and it leads them down some very dangerous paths.
The lesson manual breaks the story up into smaller sections and in-between each is a prayer and message to do together with your student.
At the beginning of each lesson is an outline that is suggested to use if your going to customize your lesson. It is like a point for point breakdown of the lesson content. This is great if you prefer to adlib and add your own content in. If you prefer a scripted method then using the Teaching Lessons manual as designed is a perfect fit.
What Did We Think Of This Teen Bible Study?
Teen Prasso is one of the best teen Bible studies that I have used! I’ve been using this Bible study with my oldest daughter who turned 13 this year. I love that each week we have a meeting time together, we normally do this on the weekends. During this time we pray and read the story and message sections together. We often have long conversations sparked by the topics in these messages and the discussion questions. We rabbit trail quite a bit!
During the week she works through the Student Journal. We have been using the journal a little differently then intended. Because we are working with dyslexia and dysgraphia large amounts of hand writing are very hard to do. What I find that works the best is that she does the memory verse and Bible verse copywork. We do the rest of questions orally. Some times we take more then one day on a “day’s” work if she wants to write the answers down. Some times she also types the answers and her thoughts into a journal on her computer since that is easier then handwriting.
Teen Prasso is really intended for group study however I felt it was really very easy to adapt this to a one on one study with our daughter. The story line is great and I have to say I skipped a head to find out what happened!
