Submarines, Secrets and a Daring Rescue (American Revolutionary War Adventures) ~ Review

I am a huge fan of historical fiction, I have loved it since I was a child. I also love reading this type of story to my children.

Although it's fiction it helps to bring the feeling of the time period to life. I recently read the book Submarines, Secrets, and a Daring Rescue by Robert J. Skead and Robert A. Skead a father and son team.

It's the second book in a series of American Revolutionary War Adventure series.

The story is about twin brothers Ambrose and John Clark who want to do their part to help. They volunteer for a mission to transport much-needed supplies to the patriots and end up in some very dangerous situations.

The story is based on some actual events but the story itself is fictional. It's written in a very engaging way and the story is one excitement after another. It definitely keeps your attention!

There are some scarier parts such as when their older brother Berty is captured and beaten, he is going to be hung as a spy.

I think that this is a great read for older children as it shows them how truly hurtful times of war is without being overly graphic. For younger children, I would suggest using this book as a read-aloud so you can edit a little while you read if needed.

I really loved that at the back of the book is a section with characters biographies and information about the real events that took place in the story.

Also included are discussion questions that would make this book a great part of a unit study on the Revolutionary War time period. Now I really need to read the first book! I'm planning to use these with our children in our upcoming history studies.
